Last Sunday, 18th of January, S.E.K. U14 Boys’ Basketball traveled to Al Khor to compete against Al Khor International School (AKIS) on the QUESS U14 Boys’ Basketball. The boys did well but, still have to work hard to keep improving their individual basketball skills, and to build up as a team. The highlight among S.E.K. players goes to Adel Amer for his overall performance. The game was resumed with 45 points scored by AKIS, against 12 points scored by S.E.K. International School Qatar.

Last Wednesday, 14th of January, the U14 Boys’ played their first basketball game at home against Compass International School. This was the first game/match hosted by S.E.K. International School Qatar. The game was very competitive, with Compass International School taking the lead. However, S.E.K. Qatar’s boys worked hard and kept focused throughout leading them to win their first game by 20-18.

Highlights go to Adel Amer who scored 12 points, and Mahmoud Ladki who scored 4 points.

On the 10th of December SOP SEK Girls’ Basketball played the quarter-finals against DeBakey High School. SEK girls were leading a win 2-1 but, could not maintain their superiority against a more aggressive opposition. The game was resumed with SEK losing 2-3, not making it to the semi-finals. Congratulations to the girls on their enthusiastic participation.

Later that day, QUESS SEK U14 Boys’ Football travelled to play their match against Mesaieed International School (MIC). A lively 11-a-side match, with both sides showing some good football skills. The SEK boys were able to mantain a good score up until late, when it became evident the training, and stamina of the MIC boys who won by 4-0. Highlights go to the goalkeeper.

Monday 15th, QUESS SEK U14 Boys’ Basketball played at Doha College. The superiority and skilled experience of DC boys was obvious throughout the two 20-minute running halves. However, SEK boys enjoyed themselves. The game was resumed with DC scoring 45 points against 9 points from SEK.

On December 1st, the fourth match of the U14 Boys’ Football took place at Doha British School (DBS) where the boys played a 7-a-side match against an experienced squad. The SEK footballers showed perseverance despite losing 5-1 at half time. Highlights go to the performance of Alejandro Tebar who is 11 years of age, and scored SEK’s first goal within two minutes of entering the game. The fantastic talent from 10-year-old Adrián García who in every game shows great skills and confidence. Also, striker Mark Elsonbaly who scored SEK’s second goal. The final score was a 6-2 win to DBS.

On the 25^th of November the QUESS U14 Boys played against a very good cohort of U14 Boys from the English Modern School (EMS). Playing the 11-a-side game, and having suffered an early goal the SEK boys showed great spirit throughout the match, creating skilled opposition. The Men of the Match were goalkeeper Salahaddin Mustaffa, and defender Saif Ghoraibeh. Both footballers performed exceptionally well throughout. On what was a very even match, the U14 Boys were unfortunate not to score, and ended up suffering a second goal just 30 seconds to the end. Final score: EMS 2-0 SEK. Onwards and upwards!

On Tuesday, 14^th of October S.E.K. International School Qatar (SEK) initiated its’ participation on Qatar United English Speaking Schools (QUESS), a secondary sports competition programme. Accompanied by Mr. Eduardo Cary, the U14 Boys travelled to Doha College for their first U14 Football match played against a more experienced host team. Despite losing 6-0 goals to Doha College, the match was lively, and the SEK boys felt enthusiastic throughout their debut.

The following day, Wednesday 15^th, saw a small crowd of 21 SEK members travelling to Newton International School for the second U14 Football match. Led by Ms. Paula Rego, Ms. Dalila Rodrigues, and Mr. Paul Vaughan, the eighteen young and enthusiastic students showed perseverance. During the first half of the match when already losing by 3-0 the boys achieved a motivational turning point when player Omar Awad scored a great goal (one the picture). The team played well showing some good football skills, which were highlighted by the 4 fantastic goals from striker João Aleixo who individually demonstrated incredible ball control. The match was resumed with Newton International School eventually winning 9-5.

This is the first academic year SEK Qatar is taking part in QUESS competitions. This year, SEK is competing in the Girls’ Athletics; U12 Girls’ Basketball; U12 Girls’ Football; U13 Girls’ Football; Boys’ Athletics; U14 Boys’ Basketball; U12 Boys’ Football; U14 Boys’ Football, U12 Boys’ Rugby, and U13 Boys’ Tag Rugby.
